El-Hadji Diouf helped fire Bolton to Premier League safety against Sunderland and then confirmed he will leave the club this summer.
The 27-year-old Senegalese international scored the first goal for the Trotters with a Daryl Murphy own goal ensuring a 2-0 win at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday evening. That leaves Bolton three points clear of the relegation places with a far superior goal difference going into the final day's action at Chelsea.
However Diouf admitted that he is looking to leave Wanderers at the end of the campaign with a move to another English club his preference.
He said: "I won't be here next year. I need another challenge.
"My first choice [for next season] is to stay in England. It is the best league in the world."
He added: "I am happy we are staying up and maybe I can come back here next year to play against Bolton.
"I have had a great time at this football club."
Meanwhile boss Gary Megson praised his players after the win against the Black Cats ensured top-flight football would be on the menu again next season.
"We knew the scores as they were coming in but didn't make a difference to what we were trying to actually achieve," he said.
"The consequence of getting the three points very much made the difference.
"The players knew they needed to perform today because we're going to Chelsea next week.
"It's four years since they lost at home isn't it?
"So we knew when we kicked off that if we could get a result it would put an awful amount of onus on the other teams, but we still had to get the actual win.
"Now we are three points above the relegation zone and in a great position to stay up."
