Nicklas Bendtner's second half header secured Arsenal a single goal victory over a disciplined Everton side at the Emirates Stadium.
The game failed to live up to the usual standard of attacking flair that one expects from Arsenal. However the goal in the 77th minute from Gunners striker Bendtner meant that Everton failed to grab the point they needed to confirm their UEFA cup spot.
The goal came after Armand Traore had put in a fantastic cross into the box, Bendtner rising to powerfully head home from close range.
A game between Arsenal and Everton has failed to finish in a goalless draw for 95 years, and up until the goal, it seemed that perhaps the match was heading that way with Everton defending in numbers knowing that a draw was good enough for their cause.
Emmanuel Adebayor had the best couple of chances for the home side, firstly his shot was saved by Howard and his second effort came on the stroke of half-time, a diving header which went wide of the far post.
Everton failed to create many chances of note, the best couple of efforts comming in succession of each other. Andrew Johnson had his shot well saved at the near post by Lukas Fabianski, the resulting corner was then cleared off the line at the back post.
