Wigan striker Emile Heskey admits boss Steve Bruce's confidence in the side was a key factor in the successful fight against relegation
Latics took just eight points from their first 14 games which cost Chris Hutchings his job and saw the return of Bruce following his protracted departure from Birmingham.
And Heskey has credited owner Dave Whelan's decision to re-appoint Bruce after the side secured their Premier League status into a fourth season with the 2-0 win at Aston Villa.
"We had a problem with confidence but Steve Bruce has given us that back," said England striker Heskey.
"When he took over we were in the bottom two but he has pulled us out of it. He is a good manager."
