Birmingham boss Alex McLeish will not be sacked even if the worst were to happen and the Blues get relegated out of the Premiership.

The former Rangers boss is still being backed by the club's board despite their precarious position and according to Blues chairman David Gold he will not be sacked even if they go down.

"If Birmingham are relegated we will stick with Alex," he told BBC Five Live's Sportsweek. "The tradition of Birmingham is that in the board's 16 years in charge we've only fired two managers.

"We have great faith and believe in Alex and his backroom staff."
