Portuguese international Nuno Valente is set to sign a new contract at Everton and will commit himself for a further year at the club.

The left-back is expected to sign the extension on his current deal which was due to expire this summer as David Moyes prepares for next season.

It has been a year of injury frustration for Valente who has played for just one minute in the last 10 weeks due to fitness problems.

The 33-year-old former Porto star will be given another 12 months as Moyes looks to keep players with his sort of experience as in the past he has won both the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

The Everton boss will now turn his attention to ensuring that Lee Carsley agrees a new deal to keep him at the club for a further year.
