Liverpool are said to be on the trail of Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal as Rafael Benitez starts to put summer plans into operation.
Liverpool had the player watched in the Champions League semi-finals with Manchester United and were again in attendance as Barcelona slammed Valencia at the weekend, but the 28-year-old French international would not come cheap.
The former Lyon player only joined the Catalans last summer for £10million and it would take more than that to persuade them to allow him to leave. Although with Fabio Aurelio prone to injury and the imminent departure of John Arne Riise, left-back is an area that Benitez will want to strengthen.
