Portsmouth are being linked with an £8m raid for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, but do not want Tottenham full-back Pascal Chimbonda.
A fresh report in the Mirror claims Pompey boss Harry Redknapp will look to bolster his forward line at Fratton Park this summer with a renewed bid to end Crouch's time as a fringe man at Anfield. And, with a host of other clubs thought to be interested in the lanky England international, it is reported that he will offer the player a bumper £75,000-a-week wage packet to ensure he chooses the FA Cup finalists.
Redknapp has always maintained an interest in Crouch, who has already had one stint at Pompey during his career, and he could finally get his man in the close-season.
If Crouch did move to Pompey then it would cast a doubt over Milan Baros' chances of turning his loan spell from Lyon into a permanent switch while David Nugent could also be offloaded to raise funds for the deal.
Meanwhile Redknapp has scotched reports suggesting he will try and lure Spurs' French right-back Chimbonda to the club in the summer.
He said: "Chimbonda, no, he's a right-back and I've got the best right-back in England in Glen Johnson. I don't need another."
