Mathieu Flamini has left Arsenal for AC Milan and now Real Madrid have revealed they want to sign Gunners star Cesc Fabregas.
Flamini has agreed a four-year deal with Milan after hammering out personal terms and passing medical on Monday and he will officially sign when his current deal with the Gunners expires next month.
The loss of Flamini is a blow to Arsene Wenger but the Gunners boss could be set for another battle as Real Madrid are back in the hunt to land Fabregas.
Real president Ramon Calderon wants to recruit a host of Spanish players in the summer and Fabregas appears to be high on his list of targets.
"Every coach likes him (Fabregas) but my policy is that it has to be the player who makes the first step for the signing because we don't want conflicts with any team," Calderon said.
"Something nice about Cesc is that he is Spanish and this is one of my objectives - to make Real Madrid more Spanish."
