Sven-Goran Eriksson will stay in charge of Man City for the tour of Asia as the club wait to see if Luiz Felipe Scolari will take over.

Former England coach Eriksson is almost certain to leave Eastlands after just one season in charge, despite guiding the club to a top-10 finish and a rare Premier League double over neighbours United.

City's Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra is unhappy with the poor run of results in the second half of the campaign and it seems he wants to replace the Swede with another coach. However in a strange twist it seems that Eriksson will stay in charge of team affairs when City jet off to Asia for a tour that includes matches in Thailand on May 17 and Hong Kong on May 22.

City spokesman Paul Tyrell told the Bangkok Post: "The media speculation does not affect the visit. Mr. Eriksson will be attending."

In the meantime City are reportedly hoping current Portugal coach Scolari will either accept or decline their £3.2million-a-year offer to become the new boss at Eastlands before the European Championships in a month's time.

It is thought Scolari is interested, but would prefer to wait until after the finals in Austria and Switzerland before making a decision on his future. However that would be at the end of June and City would struggle to bring in an alternative coach if the Brazilian decided not to take the job given that pre-season training for the new season would be starting at the start of July.
