Justine Henin made a powerful start to her challenge for a fourth title at the Qatar Telecom German Open in Berlin.

The top-seeded Belgian overwhelmed Yung-Jan Chan of Taipei 6-0 6-2 in the second round of the clay court event.

Henin, who claimed the same title in the German capital back in 2002, 2003 and 2005, is one of the top eight seeds who each received a first-round bye.

The world number one is playing her first event since she suffered a right knee injury in a 6-2 6-0 loss to Serena Williams in the Miami quarter-finals during early April.

She may get the chance to avenge that loss to Williams as the players face a potential quarter-final showdown, but first Henin must overcome 13th seed Dinara Safina, who advanced with a 6-4 6-3 win against Karin Knapp, in the third round.
