Michelle Wie has said that she will not be playing in any men's events in 2008 as she looks to put a year of injury behind her.
The 18-year-old has been accepting invitations to play on the men's PGA Tour since she was 14, but has missed 11 out of 12 cuts when doing so.
Wie explained her change of tack to her coach, David Leadbetter, during lessons at his Florida academy this week, although she may make an exception for an end-of-season appearance in Asia.
Wie caused a sensation in 2004 when she missed the cut by just a single shot in the men's Sony Open in Hawaii after rounds of 72 and 68.
But last year was an almost total write-off because of a wrist injury - she withdrew from the women's US Open and missed the cut in the Ricoh British Women's Open.
As far as Leadbetter is concerned, she should not have been playing at all. "Michelle kept thinking that the injury was about to get better, but it never did," he told the Daily Telegraph. "She's full of the joys of spring and is back to full health. For the first time in 12 months, she is swinging well and feeling no pain."
