Steven Gerrard says he expects to play for Liverpool for the rest of his career and is targeting a title challenge.

The Reds have again failed to challenge on the title front and look to be as far away as ever from picking up the Premiership Crown, but Gerrard believes they are getting closer and has vowed to stay and push the club towards their first title since 1990.

He told the Post: "I can't see myself ever leaving Liverpool now, and what I would dearly love is to lead this club to the next level that I believe we are capable of reaching.

"I've won trophies here but there's one I'm missing and I want that before I finish playing.

"I don't want to look back and say I have never been in a title race. I can see that the team is getting stronger and stronger and I can see that we are going forward. I feel that we are getting closer and I really believe that."
