Watford left-back Jordan Stewart has been released with immediate effect and will play no part in the Championship play-offs.

Stewart was boss Aidy Boothroyd's first-ever signing but slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Mat Sadler and declined a new deal during the season.

Boothroyd told the club's website: "Jordan has only ever wanted to play and I can't guarantee him that, especially at this stage of the season. He was my first signing and I will always remember him fondly for that.

"His smile was infectious and we'll miss him around the place, but we wish him well for the rest of his career."
