David Wheater says Middlesbrough are playing better football now and should be capable of a top-10 finish next season.

Wheater, named the club's Young Player of the Year, believes Boro have shown signs that there is a brighter future ahead.

"There have been positives," he said. "Some of the new lads have been brilliant. Luke Young has been outstanding, Tuncay is quality now he has settled, and Afonso [Alves] will be massive for us.

"And we are playing better football: we try to get it down and pass it, attack with pace and at times we have shown what we can do.

"I think it will all come together next year. I think with the players we have got we shouldn't have to worry about being down the bottom. We should be capable of getting in the top 10."
