Birmingham City were relegated from the Premiership, despite a comprehensive win over Rovers, after Fulham beat Portsmouth.

David Murphy opened the scoring for Birmingham on the half hour mark when Mauro Zarate laid a free-kick off for the full-back and his low shot found the back of the net following a horrendous mistake from Brad Friedel, when the ball slipped out of his hands.

Rovers equalised through Morten Gamst Pedersen just four minutes after the interval but substitute Cameron Jerome - who had earlier put in his contender for miss of the season by scooping the ball over an empty goal from five-yards - netted in the 72nd minute with a volley into the top corner. Jerome got a second on 89 minutes, before Fabrice Muamba made it four in injury time when he headed home Medhi Nafti's cross from close range.

On the day City did all they could, but with Danny Murphy's goal securing victory for Fulham at Fratton Park, the Blues will be playing in the Championship next season.
