Robert Earnshaw's departure from Derby has reportedly been put on hold while Lee Holmes is among four players shown the exit door.
The Rams agreed a fee of around £2.5million with Championship new boys Nottingham Forest for Wales international striker, Earnshaw, on Sunday. However it is claimed the 28-year-old has jetted off on holiday so his move to the City Ground or elsewhere, if Sheffield United firm up their interest, will have to wait until his return.
In the meantime Rams boss Paul Jewell has already swung the axe with 21-year-old winger, Holmes, who was the youngest-ever player to make his debut for the club at the age of 15 and 268 days at Grimsby in 2002, told he can leave after spending last season on loan with Walsall.
Veteran 35-year-old full-back Marc Edworthy's contract will not be renewed after he lost his place in the side to Tyrone Mears, while 34-year-old Michael Johnson is leaving to join Notts County on a one-year deal following a successful loan spell at Meadow Lane in the second half of this past season.
Jewell has also released 19-year-old goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe, who was signed on a two-year deal by former boss Billy Davies last summer, but has not made a senior appearance for Derby.
