Matt Derbyshire has been told he will be ready for the new season after having successful surgery on a troublesome hernia.

Derbyshire struggled with the injury for much of the season and only managed to make one substitute appearance during the final month of the campaign.

The youngster underwent surgery on Tuesday and has now been told he will be fit and ready for the start of pre-season training.

"The operation went well and we expect to see Matt back in training again in the next four weeks," a member of the Rovers medical staff confirmed today.

"He will come in for some rehabilitation work over the summer and should be ready to join in with the rest of the lads when they come back."
