Bolton could land strike ace Johan Elmander for just £5m but have been hit by the news Bafetimbi Gomes is staying with St Etienne.

Wanderers boss Gary Megson is keen on both strikers as he looks to strengthen his attack next season and will be encouraged to hear that according to reports in France Toulouse will accept £5m for Elmander after originally wanting close to £15m.

However, Gomis is no longer available after he pledged his future to St Etienne when penning a new deal. Megson bid £7m for the player in the January transfer window but was told no deal, and he will now have to turn his attention elsewhere.

Gomis, 22, told his club's website: "I am very happy to stay in my formative club. My priority was always to stay at St Etienne and I am glad my situation was solved ahead of Euro 2008.

"I thus hope to get a place in the Champions League with Les Verts."

Gomis smashed 16 goals last season as St Etienne finished fifth in Le Championat.
