Charlton are set to make an ambitious offer to sign Aston Villa striker Darren Bent when the loan window opens next week.
The 30-year-old has found life tough at Villa since moving from Sunderland in 2011 and was last season sent out on loan to Fulham, where he again struggled.
Villans boss Paul Lambert has given Bent another chance this term and he has featured in two of the club's three Premier League games, although he has yet to find the back of the net.
With Christian Benteke close to a return to full fitness, it looks unlikely Bent will get too many more chances in the Villa team unless there is a rapid improvement in his form in front of goal.
Reports are now suggesting that Championship side Charlton will try to bring Bent back to the Valley on loan, with sides outside the Premier League able to do loan deals from September 8.
Bent bagged 31 goals in 68 games during a previous stint with the Addicks.
