Aston Villa have missed out on the signing of Younes Belhanda who has joined Dynamo Kiev from Montpellier for 10 million euros.
The 23-year-old Morocco international has been the subject of transfer speculation since the end of the 2011/12 season after he played a key role in the Paillade's first Ligue 1 title success.
While Montpellier were able to persuade Belhanda to stay for another season, they had conceded they would have to sell the midfielder this summer after he turned down the offer of a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2014.
Montpellier's chairman Louis Nicollin previously claimed that Villa were one of five clubs to have registered an interest in Belhanda, while the player stressed that 'I have always said that my preference would be England'.
However as Villa boss Paul Lambert focused his efforts on other deals, Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev stepped up their efforts to lure Belhanda on board and have now completed his signing.
