Benteke misses Belgium training

Villa striker Christian Benteke has been ruled out of Belgium's friendly against Japan - but is expected to face West Brom on Monday.

The former Racing Genk hitman missed training on Sunday with soreness in his knee and is not expected to figure against the Japanese in Brussels on Tuesday.

He trained individually on Monday away from the rest of the Belgium squad, suggesting he will not be included in the friendly match.

But sources in Belgium insist his absence is simply a precaution and he should be available for Villa's next Premier League match - Monday's showdown at The Hawthorns.

Benteke played for 76 minutes in Belgium's 2-0 home defeat to Colombia on Thursday.
