Aston Villa defender Zat Knight is at the centre of a transfer battle with Bolton and Wolves both keen to land him.

Villa are reluctant to cash in on Knight as Martin O'Neill is still looking to replace Martin Laursen after he was forced to retire from the game through injury, but an offer of £3million could tempt him.

Knight himself is keen to move on in search of regular first-team football and would consider move away from Villa Park, if either Wolves or Bolton come knocking.

Trotters boss Gary Megson wants to partner Knight with former Villa star Gary Cahill at the back, while Wolves chief Mick McCarthy is looking at alternatives after missing out on Oguchi Onyewu.
