Duisburg goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald is a reported target of Aston Villa as the future of Shay Given remains shrouded in mystery.
Villa boss Paul Lambert is looking around the market for another goalkeeper addition following his decision to promote Brad Guzan as his number one shot-stopper ahead of veteran Given after just two games of this current Premier League season.
It is a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Guzan because he was released by Villa at the end of last season before Lambert offered him another contract.
However, while the American has put in several good performances to keep Given out of the side, Lambert is still keen to bring in a long-term goalkeeper solution and Wiedwalk appears to be the man in question.
The 22-year-old is now in the final year of his current contract with German outfit Duisburg and will be available for a compensation figure next summer or possibly a cut-price fee in January.
If Wiedwald is signed then 36-year-old Given could depart to make way for him after admitting on Thursday that he would 'love' to play for his boyhood team Celtic before he hangs up his gloves.
