Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given has been left out of Aston Villa's pre-season squad for the tour to Germany.
The former Manchester City and Newcastle United goalkeeper is looking for a new club, having been told he can leave for a knockdown fee as Villa try to cut their wage bill.
Given was widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to have played in the Premier League when he signed for the club in 2011 and has three years still to run on a £3m-a-year salary.
However, Villa boss Paul Lambert has left him out of the club's preparations for the new season which suggests there is no way back for the 37-year-old Irishman.
However, with little interest in Given on the table at the moment, the keeper may have to wait until the season starts before getting his chance elsewhere.
Any club suffering a long-term injury to a senior keeper in the first few weeks after the transfer window shuts would look at Given as an ideal short-term loan replacement and find the money to do the deal.
