Lambert eyes Ajax starlet

Aston Villa have expressed an interest in Ajax and Holland U-21 international Davy Klaassen, according to reports.

Klaassen has been extensively scouted by a host of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United over the past year, and it now appears that Aston Villa have joined the race for the 20-year old.

The attacking midfielder has recorded eight goals and one assist from just 15 league outings this season and the youngster is already being tipped by many for a call-up to the Dutch national side.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has issued a 'hands-off' warning to clubs in the past, but the Dutch giants are believed to be interested in offers upward of £5m and it now seems that Villa boss Paul Lambert is prepared to test Ajax's resolve.
