Toulouse's French international Moussa Sissoko is the latest midfield player to be linked with a January move to Aston Villa.
Villa boss Paul Lambert has been scouring the market for squad reinforcements, admitting late last week that 'one or two' new faces are being targeted to help the club try and pull away from the Premier League drop zone.
And 23-year-old Sissoko could be made available for a knockdown fee of £3million by the French Ligue 1 outfit because he is out of contract in the summer and will be able to depart on a Bosman free transfer.
Former Villa boss Gerard Houllier had been linked with a move for Sissoko two years ago, but the Frenchman was forced to quit because of ill health before he could make a bid.
Lambert is looking for a combative midfielder to sit in front of leaky backline and shore things up in the second half of the campaign, and Sissoko would certainly fit the bill.
Meanwhile, reports claiming that Nigel Reo-Coker is poised for a return to Villa on a short-term deal following the end of his stint at Championship club Ipswich appear wide of the mark.
