Villa boss Paul Lambert is impressed with Shay Given's attitude in training and has admitted he would consider recalling the keeper.
The 37-year-old was signed by former manager Alex McLeish back in 2011 but, following Lambert's arrival at the club, he was deemed second choice to Brad Guzan. Given has not featured for Aston Villa in the league since August 2012.
Given, who was linked with a move to Liverpool and Doncaster in the summer, has recently reiterated his desire to leave Villa Park, however Lambert has hinted that the keeper may still have a future at the club.
"If anything happened to Brad I would have no problem with him coming back in on a match day," Lambert told the Express & Star.
"Shay's been excellent around the place, he's a great pro and does everything right. He's a great keeper, but we had to make a decision we thought was right.
"He trains really hard and I'm sure Brad Guzan and Jed Steer would say Shay's been great for them."
