Newcastle have joined Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund among a growing list of clubs keen to sign Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann.
The Magpies are keeping a close watch on Weimann's situation at Villa Park after talks on a new deal for the Austrian international stalled earlier this year.
Newcastle scouts have been impressed by Weimann, who has just over one more year left on his Villa contract.
The 21-year-old showed his incredible work ethic again on Monday night as his stamina showed up his fellow strikers Gabby Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is very keen on Weimann and could be looking to the ex-Watford loan striker as a potential permanent partner for Daniel Sturridge if Luis Suarez moves on this summer.
Borussia Dortmund, who are preparing to revamp their own strikeforce next season, and Norwich City are also believed to be interested parties.
If Villa can't agree a new long-term deal with Weimann, the club will be forced to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.
But boss Paul Lambert will hope that Weimann can be persuaded to stay should the club secure its Premier League status.
