Midfielder race hots up

Wolves are reported to have joined the race to sign Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner when the window opens.

Gardner has not managed to break into the Aston Villa first team this season despite the departure of Gareth Barry in the summer and he is keen to move on in search of regular action.

Birmingham and Sunderland have both been linked with the 22-year-old in recent weeks but now reports have also suggested that Wolves are keeping tabs on him.

Gardner would prefer to stay at Villa Park but with his chances limited at the club a move could be on the cards when the window re-opens in January.
