Aston Villa winger Charles N'Zogbia hopes to return by the end of the year after undergoing an Achilles operation in June.
N'Zogbia sustained the injury whilst trying to keep fit in Miami and had surgery in the US but still faces a lengthy period on the sidelines.
Speaking of the winger's injury, Villa boss Paul Lambert told the Birmingham Mail: "That's a long term one. It's a nasty one that one."
It is understood that N'Zogbia is targeting a return to action by the end of the year but his future at Villa Park remains uncertain.
Lambert has added a number of new faces to his squad over the summer and N'Zogbia has seemingly slipped down the pecking order, having been handed the number 36 shirt for the season instead of the number 10.
N'Zogbia still has three-years left on his current deal, but it has been speculated that the 27-year-old, who joined Villa in a £9.5million deal from Wigan in 2011, could be frozen out of the side like team-mates Shay Given and Alan Hutton.
