Osbourne eyes Villa chance

A VillaMidfielder Isaiah Osbourne is set to get a chance to shine for Aston Villa in their Carling Cup clash with QPR on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old pledged his future to the Villa Park outfit by signing a new three-year deal on Tuesday which will keep him on board until 2011. And with boss Martin O'Neill plotting to make several changes to his squad for the third round tie against Iain Dowie's Championship outfit on home soil, Osbourne is a certainty for a starting place.

"I am delighted Isaiah has signed. He has ability and great strength and his attitude has been fantastic this season," said O'Neill.

"His contract was running out and we wanted to renew it. We think he has a future here and importantly, so does Isaiah."

Craig Gardner, Marlon Harewood and Zat Knight are all set to start, although James Milner is cup tied having played for Newcastle against Coventry in the previous round.

Meanwhile striker John Carew has warned his team-mates to be wary against the R's as he feels they will soon be joining Villa in the Premier League.

"QPR are one of the most high-profile teams in the Championship and they have masses of potential," he told the club's website.

"They are an up-and-coming club and I fully expect them to be a Premier League team soon.

"It is a massive game for us and we have to be thoroughly prepared for it.

"They may be in the division below us but there's no doubt they will be up for it.

"You always get that in these cup games because they are after the ultimate scalp - a Premier League club.

"We are desperate to win some silverware here at Villa - it's been too long for the supporters. The League Cup offers a big chance for us to do well.

"We would love to go all the way to the final and a date at Wembley."
