Aston Villa chief scout Glenn Roeder saw Huddersfield Town hitman Jordan Rhodes bag his fifth hat-trick of the season on Tuesday night.
Roeder was at Leyton Orient's Matchroom Stadium to see the League One clash which Huddersfield won 3-1 courtesy of three goals from Rhodes - taking his tally to 37 for the season in all competitions.
Villa boss Alex McLeish could be tempted into making a move for the Scotsman, 22, who is valued in the £5million bracket by his club.
McLeish is ready to revamp the Villa squad this summer and has already done a deal to bring Australian midfielder Brett Holman in from AZ Alkmaar on a free transfer.
Queens Park Rangers also sent a scout to the match on Tuesday and could also enter any potential summer bidding war - with Tottenham also thought to be interested.
Spurs assistant boss Joe Jordan, who may stay at White Hart Lane even if Harry Redknapp takes the England job, saw Rhodes hit a hat-trick earlier this season.
However, the strongest rumours about Rhodes moving to the Premier League concern Norwich City where he could link-up with ex-team-mates Anthony Pilkington and Aaron Wilbraham.
