Turkish giants Besiktas are thought to be preparing a bid for Aston Villa striker John Carew, who has one year left on his contract.

The 30-year-old found himself in and out of the side last season and was subsequently linked with a move away from Villa Park in January, with a host of clubs thought to be interested.

Carew, who spent a year with Besikats seven years ago, is believed to be disillusioned with life in the midlands, especially after he started the Carling Cup final on the bench.

With just one year left on his current deal the Turkish side are hopeful that Villa might be willing to sell the Norwegian international rather than lose him for free in 12 months time.
