Martin O'Neill is desperate to find a solution to his goalkeeping problem having lost out on Scott Carson earlier in the summer and it would seem that Friedel is seen as an ideal replacement.
"We've had two bids for Brad, despite my insistence to the clubs concerned we didn't want them. They've been rejected," Rovers chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"When Brad told us he wanted to leave, it was a bolt out of the blue - he had only signed his latest contract back in February, and a replacement keeper has not even been on our radar."
The veteran shot stopper, who has been widely acclaimed during his time at Rovers, would cost Villa soemwhere in the region of £2.5million.
O'Neill has already signed one American keeper this summer, 24-year-old Brad Guzan, but it is thought that the manager is still on the lookout for a more experienced custodian for next season.
Blackburn will be unwilling to let Friedel go without a replacement being drafted in, with Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson thought to be a candidate for the Lancashire side.
