Aston Villa are reported to be closing in on a £4.5million swoop for Tottenham right-back Pascal Chimbonda.Villa are in the hunt as boss Martin O'Neill has made signing a new right-back one of his top priorities of the summer. The Irishman failed to land Chimbonda during the January transfer window but is hopeful of pushing a deal through this summer now he is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
Fulham and Rangers are also keen on Chimbonda but O'Neill would fancy his chances of winning the race to sign him as he looks to move Villa on to the next level following last season's push for Europe.
