Villa eye £6m winger raid

Aston Villa are being linked with a move for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant, who is struggling for action at Anfield.

Pennant played for the Reds on Tuesday night when they knocked Crewe out of the Carling Cup 2-1, but it was only his first appearance of the season and he is feeling pretty frustrated.

Blackburn were known to be keen on taking Pennant to Ewood Park during the summer but a deal never materialised and he ended up staying with the Reds.

Villa are now thought to be in the hunt but Pennant insists he is just staying focused on Liverpool for now.

"It is very frustrating to know that you've been playing such a big part of the team and all of a sudden you are in the shadows, but that's the manager's choice and you just have to get on with it," he said.

"I'll keep plugging away and see what happens."
