Villa handed big Bouma boost

A VillaAston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma could be back in action within four months after having a successful operation on his ankle.

The Dutchman suffered what looked to be an horrific injury during the Intertoto clash with Odense on Saturday and there were fears he could be facing at least a year on the sidelines.

However, after undergoing surgery on the dislocated ankle, the prognosis is a lot better and there have even been suggestions he could be back before Christmas.

"The operation went very well and everybody, including Freddie (Bouma), is very optimistic he will make a rapid recovery," O'Neill told the club's website.

"Freddie's in good spirits. It was a bad injury but with the level of treatment he's had and the post-operative prognosis we've been given, we're all hoping to see him back, perhaps sooner than everyone expected on Saturday night."
