Villa to hijack Spurs defender

A VillaAston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has made a late bid to hijack Sunderland's move for Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul.

The Morocco-born defender is due to head to Wearside for a medical today but Villa are believed to have tabled a bid at the 11th hour and Kaboul has now asked the Black Cats for more time to consider his future.

Kaboul's agent Rudy Raba had denied that his client was interested in a move to Sunderland, but following a meeting between Roy Keane and Kaboul, the 22-year-old said he was very impressed with what the Black Cats manager had to say and was looking forward to carrying on his career at the Stadium of Light.

However Villa's late bid has obviously turned the head of Kaboul and O'Neill will be hoping that the prospect of playing European football next season might be enough to swing the deal in his favour.
