Aston Villa are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie, who will be available on a free.
Guthrie is out of contract in the summer and although Newcastle are keen to tie him down to a new deal, there is every chance he could move on in search of first-team football.
The former Liverpool and Bolton star has only made the first team when injuries have bitten into Alan Pardew's midfield and he could jump at the chance of a move if Villa pursue their interest.
With Pardew aiming to strengthen his squad further in the summer, Guthrie is likely to slip even further down the pecking order at St James Park and a switch away from the Sports Direct Arena could be the best option for him.
