Wigan centre-half Titus Bramble is not understood to be a target for Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill.
Bramble has turned his career around since joining Latics on a free transfer from Newcastle following an ill-fated spell on Tyneside after a big-money switch from Ipswich.
And his form has seen the 27-year-old linked with both Villa and Sunderland, who are managed by former Wigan boss Steve Bruce.
But it is claimed the Villans do not want Bramble as they bid to replace former captain Martin Laursen following his retirement because of a knee injury.
Wigan look set to resist any move by Bruce for Bramble and team-mate Lee Cattermole, although the fact the former has just 12 months to run on his deal complicates matters for Latics.
