Aston Villa sent a scout to Belgium on Sunday to watch Maxime Lestienne in Club Brugge's defeat to Anderlecht.
Villa were linked to Belgian winger Lestienne last August when Paul Lambert was on the lookout for a creative attacking midfielder and it appears he is back on the manager's radar.
The 21-year-old is under contract until 2017 but could be available this summer as it is rumoured that a bid of £8million might be enough to persuade Brugge to sell.
The former Mouscron player has scored 27 league goals in 64 starts over the past two seasons in Belgium and is ready to make the step up into one of the bigger European leagues.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham also had scouts at the match, in which Lestienne missed a golden chance to score, but they were thought to be watching Anderlecht players.
