Aston Villa are poised for a January scrap with Norwich and Queens Park Rangers to sign striker Robbie Keane on loan.

The veteran Republic of Ireland international enjoyed a successful six-week winter stint at Villa Park last season, where he scored three goals in seven appearances.

And, while Keane has hinted that he might take a break from football during the Major League Soccer close-season to help recover from the knocks he suffered on the way to helping Los Angeles Galaxy to MLS Cup glory, it has not stopped speculation that he could be set for another temporary move to the Premier League.

The former Tottenham man played under Alex McLeish at Villa last term, but reports suggest Paul Lambert would like to take him back to the club next month.

However Lambert's former club Norwich, managed by Chris Hughton who worked with Keane at Spurs and QPR's former White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp are also thought to be interested in taking him on a short-term loan deal.
