Aston Villa will not make moves to re-sign former players Gareth Barry and Stewart Downing this summer, according to reports.
Midfielder Barry, who played over 400 games for Villa before joining Manchester City in a £12million deal in 2009, looks set to be offloaded by the Citizens this summer with new boss Manuel Pellegrini keen to remould the squad in his own image following his appointment as Roberto Mancini's successor.
Pellegrini has already drafted in Fernandinho and Jesus Navas from Shakhtar Donetsk and Sevilla respectively so Barry will be well down the pecking order in the new season.
Reports suggesting Villa boss Paul Lambert wanted to take him back to Villa appear wide of the mark which could pave the way clear for Stoke's new boss Mark Hughes, who signed Barry for City, to snap him up.
Liverpool winger Downing, who scored 11 goals in 79 games during a two-year spell between 2009 and 2011, has also been linked with a return but the Birmingham mail is reporting that Lambert is not interested in the England international.
