Aston Villa are waiting on the results of a scan on Darren Bent's hamstring injury and the forward is set to miss the Christmas period.
The striker suffered the problem in the first half of Villa's 4-1 Capital One Cup win at Norwich on Tuesday after Bent started a match for the first time since October.
Even if the injury is only a minor hamstring strain, the striker will still be sidelined for around three weeks, meaning he will be unable to feature in the Christmas and New Year period.
The injury is unlikely to halt the transfer rumours surrounding Bent however, with Premier League rivals Fulham and QPR both credited with an interest.
Boss Paul Lambert has remained guarded whenever asked about Bent's future but reports suggest Villa will demand a fee of around £12million for the England international.
