Saint-Etienne have told Aston Villa that striker target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not for sale and they intend to keep him.

Villa boss Paul Lambert was linked with the highly-rated 23-year-old Gabon international, who has scored 22 goals in 56 league games for Saint-Etienne since joining the French Ligue 1 outfit from AC Milan last year, in several reports last week.

And, following rumours of a potential £7million bid in the January transfer window, St Etienne have now moved quickly to try and warn rival clubs off making a move for their prize asset.

Chairman Bernard Caiazzo is adamant Aubameyang will not be leaving the club in the foreseeable future.

He told Infosport: "For now, he is with us. He will stay for at least another couple of years and then we'll see."
