£5m-rated Germany midfielder Tim Borowski is the latest midfielder to be linked with Aston Villa this summer.

Owner Randy Lerner has revealed boss Martin O'Neill will have funds to bolster his squad ahead of the new season after the departures of Gareth Barry and Stuart Taylor, plus the retirement of Martin Laursen.

Borowski currently plays for German giants Bayern Munich but it is claimed they are willing to cash in on the 29-year-old if Villa meet their valuation.

Villa look set to revamp their squad for another crack at the top four with Nigel Reo-Coker linked with both Sunderland and Tottenham.

And Lerner is ready to back his manager after stating: "We have improved steadily and we have qualified for Europe two seasons in a row.

"He has a reputation as a very good manager, with good success, and that will play a part when playing are thinking of coming to Aston Villa.

"The funds will be in place for him."
