Burnley boss Brian Laws has fended off interest in striker Robbie Blake from Barnsley and says he has a very important role to play.

Following the extension of David Nugent's loan deal at the club and the arrival of Frederic Nimani at Turf Moor there was a thought that fans favourite Blake may be shipped out on loan.

Barnsley made an inquiry about him but were told he was not available and will not become available when the emergency loan transfer window opens next week.

"Robbie is an integral part of the team at this football club," Laws said.

"He has had major success here and he's a folk hero here. We need quality players between now and the end of the season to support the team and he's a quality player so there was no chance of him going anywhere."
