Davey plays down transfer talk

BarnsleySimon Davey has rejected claims that Barnsley will look to bring in a striker on loan to cover for the injured Iain Hume.

The Tykes boss has been tipped to enter the loan market to bolster his attacking options, but Davey says he wants to give his current squad members the chance to fill the void.

The manager feels he has enough quality in reserve to fill in for Hume, who is facing a long spell on the sidelines after fracturing his skull.

Speaking to the BBC, Davey said: "I've got Jon Macken, Kayode Odejayi, Miguel Mostto, Michael Coulsen and Maceo Ritgers so I have cover there.

"I know we have lost Iain Hume, but I think with what I have got in the squad at this moment in time then I can go with that.

"It is going to be down to the players to takeover and then keep the spot."
