Simon Davey has warned his Barnsley players they will be playing for first-team places in Saturday's friendly with Chengdu Blades.
The Tykes' disappointing pre-season form continued on Tuesday with a 6-0 mauling against Premier League Wigan at Oakwell. And with Chinese outfit Chengdu up next, Davey has warned his squad that the battle to impress for a place in the starting XI at QPR in next Saturday's Championship opener is well and truly on.
"Tuesday's performance and result was not acceptable and the players have been told that in no uncertain terms," Davey told the club's official website.
"That was our first home game in months and it was very disappointing to see. It will not happen against Chengdu Blades and I expect a lot better from them.
"They have been told that it was not acceptable and we will be better this weekend. They are playing for their places at QPR."
