Flicker feeling the strain

Barnsley boss David Flitcroft admitted he is under more pressure to turn the club's fortunes round following last week's defeat at Millwall.

The Reds, second-from-bottom in the table, dominated for long spells at the New Den, but failed to convert their chances and have won only one of their last 11 games in the Sky Bet Championship

When asked if the pressure has cranked up Flitcroft said: "It has on me because I want results and I put a lot of pressure on myself to win football matches.

"We work incredibly hard behind the scenes to try and get those wins and I'm sick of going into another manager's room and him saying well done - performances have been okay, but I live for wins and so does my backroom staff and the players.

"I've got to turn the draws into wins and the losses into wins because we've certainly created enough chances to win matches away and at home and we're not doing.

"So I've just asked the boys for that last little bit of quality, that game-changing moment, we've just got to be more clinical in that respect."

Flitcroft denied his side were trying to play in a different way to the back-end of last season, adding: "We've not been trying to be smart or clever by changing it.

"People can make what they want of it, but we're playing the same style as we did last season. Why would I want to change something that was so successful? I wouldn't."

Barnsley take on fellow strugglers Birmingham at Oakwell on Saturday before trips to face Brighton on Tuesday and leaders Burnley four days later.
